Until now, the BMW X Series SUV model lineup included the X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7, but the “X2” has been conspicuously absent. However, this all changes with the upcoming release of the 2018 BMW X2, which as expected, has a size that slots above the X1 and below the X3.

BMW recently announced that the release date of the 2018 BMW X2 will be sometime in the spring of 2018. The German automaker will announce the pricing as the X2 nears its launch date.

What are the highlights of the 2018 BMW X2?

The 2018 BMW X2 is a high-performance luxury compact SUV — or as BMW calls it — a “Sports Activity Coupé.” The exterior features an athletic look with its kidney grille with a proportionately wider base, curved hood, uniquely-styled side skirts and rear spoiler. The new X2 also has a high ground clearance, which makes it a great option for off-road use. The modernistic interior features a driver focused cabin, a multitude of premium touches and high-quality materials. With its trunk capacity of over 50 cu-ft, there’s plenty of room to load up sizeable items.

Impressive Performance of 2018 BMW X2

Under the hood of the 2018 BMW X2 is the state-of-the-art 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This high-level torque results in excellent acceleration, with the X2 making the 0 – 60 mph sprint in only 6.3 seconds. The X2 comes standard with the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, and if you desire an even sportier driving experience, you can get the fast-shifting Sport Automatic Transmission, which comes with the M Sport X package. And for superb traction and confident handling, the X2 comes standard with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system.
