What is the Difference Between the BMW M2 and the BMW M4?

June 29th, 2017 by

If you’re looking for performance and speed, you’re looking at the right vehicles. The BMW M series is one of the most impressive and powerful series of vehicles produced by BMW. These speed-inspired vehicles will bring the feeling of the race track into your garage. You may have noticed a big price difference between the 2017 BMW M2 and the 2017 BMW M4. Why the difference? Let’s explore.

The 2017 BMW M Series is built with power and speed in mind. Advanced BMW engineering uses lightweight materials including carbon fiber, as well as TwinTurbo technology which uses fewer cylinders to decreases weight without sacrificing horsepower. All M Models are tested and tuned in Nürburgring, Germany at BMW’s private facility.

The 2017 BMW M2

Starting MSRP: $52,500

The 2017 BMW M2 is fitted with lightweight aluminum suspension (the same as the M4), as well as compound brakes and Active M Differential. The M2 is impressively powerful, producing 365-hp at 6500 rpm, as well as 343 lb.-ft of torque. And speed? The M2 boasts a 0-60 time of just 4.1 seconds.
The M2’s powerful engine features a TwinPower turbo, and BMW’s double-VANOS technology varies camshaft time, allowing for maximum power. Sparing no expense for quality, the M2’s engine is made of lightweight parts, making an already great engine even more smooth.

Quality is not just reserved for underneath the hood, however. The M2 features 19-inch forged aluminum double-spoke wheels, leather seats with premium stitching, iDrive system with on-board computer and touchpad Controller, a 360-watt, 12-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound Audio System, and BMW Navigation, among other amazing standard features.

The 2017 BMW M4

Starting MSRP: $66,200

The 2017 BMW M4 features many Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) parts to reduce weight and optimize speed. Most notably is the CFRP driveshaft – a one-piece unit that reduces rotating mass for a drive with less counteractive momentum. Every part of the vehicle is optimized to shed weight and optimize performance, speed, and handling.
The M4’s powerful engine produces an insane 425-hp and 406 lb.-ft of torque, powering the M4 to an unbelievable 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. The engine six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbo engine uses two mono-scroll turbochargers with variable valve control (Double-VANOS and Valvetronic) and high-precision direct injection.

The 2017 BMW M4 also provides some modern luxury to the driver, including full-color M-Specific Head-UP Display which will project speed, selected gear, and a color-specific digital engine rev-counter onto your windshield so you’ll never have to look away. The M4 also features a 16-speaker, 600-watt Harman Kardon Surround Sound Audio System, iDrive system with on-board computer and touchpad Controller in addition to other premium standard features.

So which is better?

There’s no real answer to that question. Neither is better. Rather, they’re different. With either the M2 or the M4, you’ll be buying an M-Series BMW – the highest and high quality you’ve come to expect from BMW. Both feature optimized technology and craftsmanship to achieve amazing speed and performance.

The M2 is lighter and smaller than the M4. The interior is a bit more cramped, as it is optimized for performance. The M2 is for those looking for fun and thrills. Conversely, the M4 is bigger and more powerful. The interior is more comfortable and provides more room. The M4 is for those looking for speed and performance, but more practical application.

There’s no denying you’ll get a great vehicle with the BMW M-Series.
