The All-New 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible

The BMW 4 Series has a new model in its lineup. The 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible takes everything that is great about the 4 Series and adds an exhilarating open-air experience. With more style, power, torque, and performance than its predecessor, the 4 Series Convertible earns its Ultimate Driving Machine monicker.

BMW 430i Convertible

The second generation 4 Series Convertible replaces the old retractible hard top with a new soft-top. The soft-top is 40 percent lighter, features improved aerodynamics, reduces wind noise, has better insulation, and more headroom than the previous hard top. Cargo spaces also increases cargo space to 9 cubic feet, a 1.2 cubic feet increase from the previous model. Opening and closing the soft-top takes 18 seconds and can be performed at up to 31 mph. With Comfort Access, standard on M440i models and optional on 430i models, the top can be operated with the remote key.

BMW 430i Convertible

The 2021 4 Series Convertible can be had with two engines. The 430i features BMW’s B46 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. It makes 255 hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque, good for a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds. The M440i features BMW’s B58 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine. This model makes 382 hp and 369 ft-lbs of torque and can do 0-60 in 5 seconds flat. Both models offer standard rear-wheel drive and can be had with xDrive all-wheel drive.

BMW 430i Convertible

The M440i models also receive an updated 8-speed Sport automatic transmission. In addition to standard Launch Control, the Sport transmission also features a new Sprint function. When the left shit paddle his held down, the Driving Experience Control switches to SPORT and the vehicle is optimized for accelerator response, exhaust note, and gearshift characteristics. The transmission will also drop into the lowest allowable gear for the engine speed for maximum acceleration.

BMW 430i Convertible Interior

The 6-cylinder M440i models also receive a brand-new 48-volt mild-hybrid system. A 48-volt starter/generator is complemented with a separate 48-volt battery used for energy recuperation, storage, and use during driving. In addition to providing power for electronics systems, this stored energy can be used to boost performance during hard acceleration. This system also improves efficiency of the Auto Start/Stop system for faster startups and less vibration.

The 2021 BMW 430i Convertible starts at $53,100 while the M440i starts at $64,000. Equipping the 4 Series with xDrive adds an extra $2,000 to each model. The 4 Series Convertible is set to arrive in March 2021, with xDrive models arriving in July.
