BMW Digital Key Plus: Turn Your Smartphone into the Ultimate BMW Key

The Future of Keyless Driving

Gone are the days of digging through pockets, purses, or bags to find your car key. With BMW Digital Key Plus, your compatible smartphone or smartwatch becomes your vehicle key, giving you a seamless, secure, and highly convenient way to access and operate your BMW.

As part of BMW ConnectedDrive technology, BMW Digital Key Plus enhances the ownership experience by allowing drivers to unlock, lock, and start their vehicle without ever touching a traditional key fob. Whether you’re commuting through Glendale, heading out on a weekend road trip, or running errands around Los Angeles, BMW Digital Key Plus offers next-level convenience designed for modern lifestyles.

What Is BMW Digital Key Plus?

BMW Digital Key Plus is an advanced digital key system that uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to securely communicate between your BMW and a compatible mobile device. Unlike earlier digital key systems that required you to place your phone near the door handle, Digital Key Plus can automatically recognize your approach and unlock the vehicle as you get close.

Once inside, you can start the vehicle with your smartphone or smartwatch simply present in the cabin. There is no need to remove the device from your pocket or bag.

Key Features and Benefits

Automatic Locking and Unlocking

One of the most appreciated features of the digital key is passive entry. As you approach your BMW, the vehicle can unlock automatically. When you walk away, it can lock itself for added convenience and security.

Leave the Key Fob at Home

Your smartphone becomes your primary key, eliminating the need to carry a separate key fob. This simplifies everyday driving and reduces the chances of misplacing your vehicle key.

Share Your BMW Digitally

Utilizing digital keys makes it easy to share vehicle access with family members or trusted friends. Digital keys can be transmitted electronically, allowing other users to access your BMW without needing a physical key. Owners can also manage or revoke shared access whenever needed.

Enhanced Security

The system utilizes Ultra-Wideband technology, which provides highly accurate proximity detection and helps protect against common relay attacks that can affect traditional keyless entry systems.

Smartphone and Smartwatch Integration

BMW Digital Key Plus works with many compatible Apple and Android devices, allowing you to use your phone or smartwatch as a convenient key. Supported devices continue to expand as BMW and technology partners evolve the platform.

How to Set Up BMW Digital Key Plus

Setting up the digital key is straightforward through the My BMW App. After adding your vehicle to your BMW ID, the app guides you through the setup process and stores the digital key within your device’s digital wallet.

The process generally requires:

• A compatible BMW equipped with Digital Key Plus capabilities
• A compatible smartphone or smartwatch
• Your BMW ID and My BMW App
• Both physical vehicle keys during initial setup

Why BMW Owners Love Digital Key Plus

BMW drivers increasingly expect their vehicles to integrate seamlessly with the technology they use every day. Digital Key Plus delivers exactly that by combining convenience, connectivity, and security into a feature that quickly becomes indispensable after everyday use.

Whether you’re juggling shopping bags, coordinating a family schedule, or simply appreciate innovative technology, BMW continues to streamline your daily routine and enhances your overall ownership experience.
