The BMW X5 M comes equipped with numerous cutting-edge performance technologies, ranging from its powerful turbocharged engine to its sophisticated chassis. The BMW X5 M also features the 8-speed M Steptronic Transmission, which has a unique DriveLogic function.
How the Drivelogic Function Works
With the Drivelogic function, drivers of the BMW X5 M can personalize their driving experience with three different settings: from comfortable and efficient to dynamic to racetrack dynamics with extra-short shifting times. A torque converter clutch ensures a direct connection between the engine and the transmission, with minimal loss of power. Also, when the BMW X5 M is at a standstill, there is no automatic force-transmitting connection between the engine and the transmission, which prevents “creeping.”

Additional Benefits of M Steptronic Transmission
The M Steptronic Transmission offers several other benefits. The unusually fine increments between gears and the extremely rapid shifts facilitate optimum force delivery at all speeds, resulting in high-level power and efficiency. When driving at high speeds, the eighth gear in the M Steptronic Transmission reduces the engine speed, in turn decreasing both fuel consumption and engine noise. The driver can shift manually in “D” mode as well as in “S” mode, via the M gear lever or the M gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. The engine can reach maximum speeds when necessary, for in the manual “S” mode, the M Steptronic transmission does not automatically shift upward.
